More than 130 pages of articles that explore topics of current interest.
The Editorial by Stefano Pampanin intends to stimulate some reflections for the definition of a coordinated long-term action plan at national level, capable of raising the bar and aiming at a significant reduction of the socio-economic impacts associated with earthquakes, both for existing buildings and new buildings by promoting the use of new low-damage technologies.
The second contribution, again on existing constructions, deals with theme of the conservation of a particular type of cultural heritage, the Churches, combined with that of the safety of those who may find themselves inside these buildings at the time of an earthquake. The next paper proposes a review of the principles and technologies for structural first aid to historic buildings and monuments after the last major earthquakes in Italy.
Two articles related to recent technologies complete the issue: an interesting note presents the results of a research aimed at assessing and comparing the properties of two commercial Ultra-High-Performance Fiber Reinforced Concretes (UHPRFC) made with the same amount of steel fibers (2.5% vol.); lastly, an article illustrates the state of the art and innovations and provides information about the mechanical splicing system of reinforcing bars from a technological and constructive point of view – also examining the regulatory aspects and the important repercussions of this system, in terms of environmental sustainability.
